winter

yet i would challenge you.

years of endless winter, snow upon snow, ice covering all life

sunshine is cruel, sending down empty promises of warmth and happiness and hope

only to disappear and leave one bereft, clutching only the broken dreams that had sprouted in its light

all is again grey and frozen, and frozen again

and the cold creeps back into the soul

and stifles.

it may be cold where you are

but you are not alone

cold

alone

I am with you sister! The cold has nothing on the not-cold. I'm not so sure how I feel about chocolate marshmallow bunnies or whatever, but I could definitely get my teeth into a bit of warm sunshine right now. It's not even lying, that sunshine, it really is that warm and bright all the time, above the clouds at least. It's those moonless nights which seem so hopeless.

Many are tempted to moonshine. I was for a time. But I love that there's a brighter light that never stops shining, no matter where or when, and we can never be separated from it.

Not even in rainy windy London.

kieran, does "moonshine" mean "illicitly distilled liquor" in your country, as it does in mine?

the cold destroys my soul, but one can be warm as long as one is not alone in the world. that's what this is about.

The thing is, I love the snow, and the cold even. I like my toes to be cold at night. I also like to be alone, but not lonely.
